According to the Eddy Cue, Apple senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, when App Store was launched back in 2008, Apple never imagined it to gain such a momentum which became one of the reason for people to buy iDevices. The developers have built such an incredible applications for the iOS users. Even though competitors have come up with their own marketplaces for the application downloads, but none has been able to to come even close.
Currently, App Store has 5,50,000 apps for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users. Out of which 1,70,000 alone contributes to the iPad. Moreover, there are several different categories of the application for the iOS users including news stand, games, news, sports etc. It seems that Apple is pretty optimistic with their application ecosystem which had driven sales of their products in the past.
